AT&T 2G Radio (Wireless Cellular) Sunset - FCC Approved
What is the AT&T 2G Sunset?
In August of 2012, AT&T Inc. announced that the shutdown of its second-generation, or "2G," wireless nationwide network will be complete by the end of 2016. This shutdown will not occur all at once. HOWEVER, it has began sporadically in Tennesee and Georgia with little or no warning and on January 1, 2017, AT&T’s 2G nationwide wireless network will cease to exist.
Why is AT&T shutting down the 2G wireless network? Data use on wireless networks is increasing as more and more people adopt smartphones. AT&T realizes that shutting down the 2G network and using that space for 3G and 4G LTE networks will drastically increase data capacity and speed on the newer networks.
How will this affect my system? The wireless cellular communicators for the security industry rely on AT&T towers to communicate so this technology upgrade directly affects the nation’s security customers. Please contact us to see if your cellular communicator will need to be upgraded to the new 4G unit to prevent an interruption in monitoring service.
Forget your code number?
Please call the customer service number at (423)870-3272. Unfortunately, while the problem can be solved, it may require a service technician to visit your home.
Forget your cancel password? If you forget or give the Central Monitoring Station an incorrect password, they will send the authorities to investigate the situation. If you forget your password or would like to change it, call the customer service number (423)870-3272.
How often should I test my security system? Monthly. Each month you need to test your security system to ensure that it is working properly. Follow the instructions in your security system manual-you may need to contact your Central Monitoring Station to complete the test. Periodically testing your security system is the only way to ensure that it will function properly in the case of an emergency.
